Downsizing

If you live in a big house, in Clarksville TN, it can be hard to determine how much you’ll be able to fit into a smaller space. Solve that problem by using masking tape to map out the dimensions of your tiny house in a parking lot or driveway. Then measure your furniture and block it out with tape or cardboard boxes to make sure it fits. Give yourself plenty of time to work on your downsizing project. Only keep the things that do double duty. For example, an ottoman the hold books and blankets or can be used as extra seating.

If you have hobbies, you may want to think about what you can do without. 1 camera if you are a bird watcher, do away with duplicate paint colors if you are an artist.

By making these decisions quickly without pondering help you avoid the necessity of storing things in the family garage or a self-storage unit at A1 Mini Storage in Clarksville TN. But if you find yourself still needing storage give us a call at 931.542.5000 or stop by 2270 Old Russellville Pike and we can help you decide what size you need.

The easiest way to determine what to keep, separate items into three piles, Stuff to keep, Stuff you don’t use and Stuff you only use sometimes. Start with the things you have not used in the past year. Don’t over think the process.

If you have large sentimental value pieces you love and they won’t fit into your new tiny home and you don’t want to put them in storage in Clarksville TN, find a family member who will appreciate the piece and give it to them. You can still see it on holidays and when you visit.

If you have filing cabinets full of important papers like insurance policies and tax returns, you can always put them in a safety deposit box at your bank or take pictures of them and download them onto your computer.

Once you move into your new smaller home, after some time you will not even be able to remember what you used to have. You will love the time freed up to leave the house and find fun things to go and see. Life will be so much easier.

How It Works

Renting a moving container is fairly simple. Customers in Jackson TN or a nearby town, must first choose whether they wish to store, move or do both with their belongings. If using the container for storage, customers will need to decide whether to store the container at their location or at a storage center. Customers must also decide on the duration they wish to use the container for storage. For both moving and storage, customers must choose a delivery location, date and size as well.

After reserving one or more containers, the Affordable Portable’s in Jackson TN, will deliver the container right to the customer’s doorstep. From there, all they have to do is load up their belongings into the container at their own pace. When you are done unloading the container, Affordable Portable’s will come pick it up and remove it from your Jackson, Milan, Two Way, or Humboldt TN property.

Customers have the option to store an Affordable Portable container on their property or at a storage location. According to Affordable Portable, rates for storing a container on the customer’s personal property start as low as $99 per month. However, monthly rental rates vary and are dependent on storage duration, container availability and location and delivery near Jackson TN 38305.

Affordable Portable’s is a popular choice for those moving and/or looking for storage because of the container’s weather-resistant makeup, as well as the ramp-free loading. Each container is equipped with steel locking latches, and a place for a lock for security.

Moving supplies

Don’t forget about the moving supplies you’ll have to buy yourself! You’ll need to make sure you add cardboard boxes, plastic bins, bubble wrap/packing paper and any other supplies needed for the move into the equation. These costs can quickly add up.

The 10-ft. container is approximately 10’x8’x8. Perfect for moving a home with two or three rooms. The inside of the container offers 640 cubic feet of packing space.  The 10-ft. moving container is comparable to a rental truck that is 15 feet long.

Storing Clothes

When I place our clothes in a storage unit, I want to make sure they are protected from the elements that can damage the fabrics and render them unusable. In a storage unit, there are exposed to heat, humidity, moisture, or insects and rodents.

Packing your clothes in a cardboard box and stashing it in the corner of your storage unit is not going to provide enough protection over a long period of time, so it's important to know how to pack your clothing for storage to keep it safe from harmful elements.

Preparing your clothes for storage

It's important that your clothes are clean when you put them away in storage. Make sure that you thoroughly wash all of the clothing that you plan on placing in the storage unit. If you normally use starch or other products on dress shirts or pants, leave them off because such products will attract insects and other pests to the clothing.

There are several other reasons to make sure that your clothing is nice and clean before you pack it away. For starters, when your clothing is dirty, it contains bacteria and organic materials that embed themselves in the fibers of the clothing. Even if there are no visible stains, clothing that has been worn will likely have some traces of organic substances that will attract pests like moths and beetles. Insects and pests are also attracted to natural fibers like cotton and wool, so make sure that any cotton or wool clothing is especially clean and stored in a protective box that prevents any pests from getting inside and damaging your clothing.

Packing your clothes for storage

How you pack your clothes will likely be how they remain for a long period of time, so it's important that you pack the correct way and in the correct containers to prevent damage.

The first thing to remember is that, despite the fact that you'll save a lot of space, you shouldn't pack your clothes in any vacuum-sealed or airtight bags. These bags keep all air out and prevent proper ventilation for your clothes, which can allow mold to grow inside the bags, especially in places where there is a lot of moisture in the air. If you live in a climate with high humidity, such as Tennessee, you should make sure to pack your clothes in plastic boxes or containers that have proper ventilation. To further prevent moisture from damaging your clothes, you can also insert silica packets or silica gel into the containers.

If you want to keep moths and other insects away, placing cedar blocks in the containers with your clothes is a great all-natural way to keep your clothes pest-free. The advantage to using cedar blocks over moth balls and other chemical-based insect and pest repellents is that it's an all-natural method that won't create an odor or leave behind any chemical residue.

Other tips

When labeling the boxes and containers, be as detailed as possible so that it's easy to find what you need. Also list the number of items in the box, the date that you placed the box in storage and any other important information regarding the contents of the container.Your storage unit should be a cool, dry and dark environment. These are the best conditions for storing your clothes. If you live in a humid climate with a lot of heat and moisture, you should consider putting a dehumidifier in the storage unit to keep the moisture out.If you are planning on storing your clothes for a long period of time, over a year or more, you should periodically stop in to check on the condition of your clothes and make sure that they haven't been affected by any mildew or insects. If you are storing your clothes for longer than a year, consider checking on your items every 8 to 12 months.
